Chomutov

We have been operating in Chomutov since 2002. We help people who find themselves in a difficult circumstances. The essential issues we come across in our work are education, debts, employment or housing. A great deal of our effort focuses on supporting children. Currently, we run two pre-school education clubs in Chomutov, called the Džanel Club (you can find it in the city centre) and Človíček (on the Kamenná housing estate).

The clubs are intended for children from 3 to 5 years of age who, for various reasons, would not be able to attend ordinary nursery school. We provide individual and group tutoring for children who already attend primary school where we encourage the active involvement of parents with their children’s homework. We also work with children at the local hostel where we provide tutoring and work with pre-school children. Within our career guidance service, we also work with young people and assist those looking for a job.

Naturally, as well as with children we also work with adults. We have long been providing individual consultations focusing not only on the people in marginalised localities but also on others at risk of social exclusion. We help them in communication with authorities, with finding a job or housing. We also offer debt advice aimed at helping people find a solution to debt-related problems.

We also collaborate with the Government Employment Agency on their project “Together We Can Cope in the Ústí Region” and furthermore with the Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic, by offering their clients the opportunity to work off the hours of their community service sentence. The Chomutov branch is actively involved in the operation of local working groups.
