What we do
People in Need operates in 30 countries around the world. In addition to giving aid to catastrophe victims, we help in places where, without support, the local people would find it extremely difficult to break out of the poverty cycle. In countries with authoritarian regimes we help people who are unjustly detained or otherwise pursued for their struggle for fundamental rights.
For over 20 years we have also been helping at home in the Czech Republic - in the short term during flooding, in the long term in the poorest regions of the country, assisting individuals and whole families who have got deep into difficulties brought on by extreme debt, life at various “bad addresses”, a low level of education and long-term unemployment.
We devote the greatest attention to work with children and young people. We work in areas that lack sufficient support from the state and other institutions. We reduce handicaps in children who need encouragement and at more than half of schools we help active schoolchildren develop their talents and understand the world around them and its interrelations.
