Voices from Civil Society: Georgia Conference on Crisis Response and Eastern Partnership

Representatives of civil society, academia, and the international community gathered in Tbilisi, Georgia, for a two-day conference to exchange ideas on building resilience, tackling disinformation, and discussing visions of the Eastern Partnership program. 

 “The Future Begins Today: Crisis Response and Europe’s Eastern Policy,” hosted by People in Need on November 21-22, featured six panel discussions. Key-note remarks on the first day were delivered by Mr. Petr Mikyska, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia, and on the second day, by Ms. Evija Kotan, representative of the EU delegation to Georgia.

Throughout the conference, participants from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Ukraine, and EU countries examined lessons-learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenges brought by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and discussed ways to strengthen democracies and independent media. 

Recommendations for shaping future EaP policies in the region were also offered.

The closed-door event, conducted under Chatham House rules, was held with the support of the European Commission DG Near and Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
