Apart from direct aid provided to the victims of the conflict inside Syria, People in Need (PIN) initiated an advocacy program aiming to enforce practical steps which would improve the delivery of humanitarian aid inside Syria. In cooperation with other non-governmental organizations, PIN is actively participating in a worldwide advocacy and lobbying campaign coordinated by Crisis Action.

In the framework of the campaign, PIN:

  • Provides testimony about the scope of the humanitarian disaster and suffering of the people inside Syria.
  • Promotes even and needs based distribution of humanitarian aid inside Syria, particularly between government and opposition controlled areas.
  • Calls for a broader outreach of the UN agencies to the areas outside the government control which are currently not being accessed.
  • Requests the UN agencies or other alternative diplomatic mechanisms to open negotiations on the impartial delivery of humanitarian aid with all parties of the conflict
  • Promotes recognition and formalization of the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria from neighbouring states; particularly in cases where the areas are not accessible from the government-controlled areas for security and administrative reasons.
  • Appealing for increased volume of humanitarian aid inside Syria.

Within the campaign framework, People In Need either alone or together with Crisis Action addressed European politicians, donor organizations, high-ranking UN officials including the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria in Kuwait, the BRICS Conference, the G20 summit in Indonesia and the UN Security Council.
