Responding to the breach of the Nova Kakhovka dam in the Kherson region
Published: Jun 6, 2023 Reading time: 1 minuteOn the night of 6 June, the Nova Kakhovka dam in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine, was breached. We plan to help in coordination with local authorities.
We contacted Ukrainian authorities who are already reacting to the emergency situation and collecting the most urgent needs and we are ready to deliver 20,000 six-litre bottles of drinking water tomorrow in Kherson and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, we are also negotiating the supply of pumps and water tanks. We are also ready to distribute hygiene kits in Kherson.
We are ready for delivering food parcels to community centres where residents from flooded and vulnerable areas will be evacuated in case of request from local authorities.
In the places which will host evacuees from the affected areas, we are ready to provide psychological support.

The situation is still very unclear, and the Ukrainian authorities are currently focusing mainly on evacuating people from the threatened area. We will have information on the needs arising from the meeting of local authorities and humanitarian organisations working on the ground later this evening, stay tuned.
