Reconstruction of Shree Ganesh Basic School, which was destroyed by the 2015 earthquake, is complete and children have re-enrolled. Thanks to the generous support of the Czech Radio Foundation, People in Need was able to facilitate the construction of the school in Baruwa, Sindhupalchowk district, through a local NGO PHASE Nepal.

In the temporary learning center, significantly lower numbers of students were studying as many parents migrated to Kathmandu, the capital. Many parents also sent their children to bigger cities for quality education. Many were forced to walk 1-2 hours daily to reach the nearest school. Now, the new school has been handed over to the community and school management.

The local community was extremely happy with the re-establishment of the school. Rashmi Dong, the schoolteacher, says that earlier children were shy to speak but now they are playing with toys and reading materials. There is a lot of interactions and everyone is studying well.
