People in Need strongly condemns the attack on Novoselivka, Donetsk oblast, destroying the storage of humanitarian assistance
Published: Oct 16, 2023 Reading time: 1 minuteWe are shocked by the information and images of the attack on Friday, 13 October, on the House of Culture in Novoselivka, Donetsk oblast, which served as the storage of humanitarian assistance by People in Need to support the residents of the community. The building of the House of Culture is completely destroyed. People in Need staff and local residents were not affected.
As a result of this attack the construction materials for the rehabilitation of the houses for 200 families of Novoselivka and neighboring settlements which were stored in the building were completely destroyed, leaving the residents without needed support for the rehabilitation of their homes right before the upcoming winter.
This event in Novoselivka was only one of many other attacks in different oblasts in Ukraine destroying buildings and infrastructure, killing and injuring people. No one should go through what millions in Ukraine do having their homes damaged or destroyed, seeing their loved ones being injured or killed, and seeing schools, hospitals, cultural and other facilities being bombed because of Russia’s attacks.
Despite the sad fact that the storage of humanitarian assistance is completely damaged, People in Need will ensure and make all the necessary efforts to support the community and provide with assistance.
Civilians in Ukraine must be protected and humanitarian aid is not a target.
