The agenda included the premiere of a documentary film about Ukrainian aid workers at work during wartime and a discussion on the continued collaboration between Taiwan and the NGO to support Ukrainian refugees and other humanitarian initiatives.
We organized the event together with European Values Center for Security Policy.
Distinguished guests, including Joseph Wu, Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Taiwan, and other notable figures from both Taiwanese and Czech offices, attended the gathering.
The event featured the premiere of the documentary “Незламні - One Mission, Four Lives”. This film captures the harrowing experiences of four PIN aid workers in war-torn Ukraine. The documentary delves into the personal stories of those committed to aiding civilians amidst the ongoing conflict; the film highlights the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the vital work undertaken by People in Need.
"The challenges we face today are not isolated struggles"
The event commenced with powerful opening remarks from Dr. Wu, who emphasised the collective struggle for democratic values faced by nations today. "The challenges we face today—whether in Taiwan, Ukraine, or any other democracy threatened by authoritarian expansionism—are not isolated struggles. They are a shared battle for the values that define the free world," said Dr. Wu.
Following the screening, a panel discussion took place featuring prominent voices like Ms. Peifen Hsieh, Deputy Secretary General of Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund. The dialogue reinforced the shared values of democracy, freedom, and self-determination that both Taiwan and PIN uphold.
Taiwan has supported PIN for over three years
Over the past three years, Taiwan has supported PIN through various projects, including a $1 million initiative in 2022 to aid Ukrainian war refugees in the Czech Republic, a $200,000 contribution in 2023 to assist earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria, and a recent $283,252 allocation in 2025 to provide shelter and counselling services to Ukrainian youths and refugees in the Czech Republic.
The commitment between Taiwan and People in Need was strengthened on 11 February 2025 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Prague, ensuring ongoing cooperation and support.
"Taiwan stands in solidarity with Ukraine"
The prospects for further cooperation in aid to Ukraine were also confirmed by Mr. Eric Jiun-Yaw Huang, Director General, Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “During this ever-evolving and challenging time, Taiwan stands in solidarity with Ukraine. We will continue to work hand-in-hand with our European partners to provide necessary humanitarian assistance for Ukraine, so as to help Ukrainians find safety and protection, as well as support Ukraine in its reconstruction efforts.”
