Department: Digital Unit (part of Relief and Development Department)
Line Manager: Senior GIS Officer
Base: Home office (potentially with occasional visits to HQ)
Renumeration: This is an unpaid internship.
Expected workload: 10 - 20hrs/month – time flexible
Assignment duration: Flexible
Background of the role: The Relief and Development Department (RDD) at People in Need focuses on both humanitarian aid and development work. The GIS Intern will support the collaborative work, particularly in WASH sector, of the Digital Unit and the Knowledge and Learning Department, both integral parts of RDD.
About the role: The GIS Intern will have the opportunity to learn about People in Need’s activities, gain experience in the NGO sector, and develop knowledge at the intersection of GIS and WASH. The primary focus will be on post-implementation monitoring of WASH projects. In a supporting role, the intern will work closely with the Senior GIS Officer, who coordinates and supports the practical aspects of their work, and the Technical Advisor for Sustainable Water Services, who sets priorities and provides WASH technical guidance.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Processing, cleaning, data conversion of spatial data of WASH implementation with the use of Excel, Google Earth, ArcGIS Pro + ArcGIS Online and related activities
Requirements:
Required:
- University degree or student status (preferably in the last year of bachelor’s program or in master’s program) – geography or related field
- Ability to work in ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, MS Excel and Google Earth (e.g., data processing, attribute management, file type conversion, CRS transformations, overlay analysis)
- Ability to communicate in English
- Ability to process and clean a large amount of data
- Attention to detail
- Be able to work and live in the Czech republic
- Candidate has to have his/her own PC
Advantage:
- Ability to work in QGIS, ArcGIS FieldMaps, ArcGIS Survey123, ArcGIS Dashboards and ArcGIS Experience Builder
- Knowledge of Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, French
