Mark your calendars! The 11th National Online Career and Productivity Fair will be held virtually again this year as COVID-19 keeps taking its toll. This milestone event will be held on 4-5 November from 8.00 to 17.00 (GMT+7) via www.careerfair.nea.gov.kh, with the participation of relevant government agencies, development partners, private companies, enterprises, higher education institutions, and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions.

This year, People in Need (PIN) Cambodia’s TVET projects are providing partial support to the National Employment Agency (NEA) in organising this event, with funding from the European Union, the Czech Development Agency, and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit).

As an event partner, PIN is working to promote government policies such as increasing youth employment and promoting the TVET system. Current projects include the Partnership for Employment and Skills Development (PESD), Fostering Transition to Employment for Youth (FTE4Youth), and the Integrated COVID-19 Response for Urban Setting.

In Cambodia, the Career and Productivity Fair is hosted every year by the Ministry of Labour’s National Employment Agency (NEA), mainly for exchanging labour market information. The fair is a hub for job seekers, students, employers, technical trainers, experts, researchers, and policy makers to connect and exchange information regarding employment, expertise, human resources, and work productivity.

With COVID-19 widespread in Cambodia, the ministry is making sure the fair remains accessible by going virtual for the second year in a row. The event helps maintain active and ongoing interaction in the labour market during this challenging time. By following government mandates and avoiding in-person events, the career fair makes it possible to connect job seekers with employers and increase awareness regarding labour productivity growth in all sectors.

“I believe this is a great forum for employers from different sectors to showcase their demand for labour and their recruitment policies. This online fair will bring job seekers closer to thousands of positions available. It is, without a doubt, the best place for those who are preparing to enter the workforce, exploring new careers, or acquiring additional skills through technical training opportunities, particularly given the current challenges posed by COVID-19,” says Nhov Den, PIN’s TVET project Manager.

During the event’s livestreaming, all exhibitors will have their own section, or “online booth.” Participants can find all relevant information on the exhibitor’s profile and participate in a real-time consultation with employers. Thousands of jobs will be available to explore and apply to on the spot, as participants are encouraged to bring their updated CV with them to the online meetings.

In addition to career opportunities, participants can also seek advice from employers and take part in technical training programmes delivered by several training institutions.

The job fair will be followed by a webinar entitled “Maintaining Productivity during the COVID-19 Pandemic.” This event will feature experiences, knowledge, and tips from national and international experts on technology for enhanced productivity. Through the webinar, participants will learn how to cultivate a productive mindset and increase work efficiency amid COVID-19.

During the 2020 Career and Productivity Fair, more than 5,000 job posts were opened to an audience of approximately 31,000 online participants. With the Cambodian economy currently recovering, it is expected that this year’s event will be even larger.
