So far, we have released CZK 2.5 million from our Club of Friends to help. We will convey our help through local partners who are working in Myanmar. They will distribute basic humanitarian supplies to affected households: funds to buy food and drinking water, kitchen utensils, clothing, blankets, and materials for emergency shelters, such as tarpaulins, rope, and cleaning supplies. The funds released will be used to help volunteers clear away the collapsed infrastructure and for psychosocial assistance afterwards.

"We will focus on assistance through our partner community organisations. We will support them financially as well as by providing material assistance. To give you an idea, Myanmar has one of the hottest months of the year, and temperatures can reach more than 40 degrees Celsius. Combined with the very humid air, this is deadly. So, the key is water, sanitation, and food. In the coming phases, shelter should probably be the biggest priority," says Michaela Kupková, our Regional Director for Asia, about the situation in Myanmar.

The scale of the disaster is huge and help will be needed for the long term. The ongoing civil war is also exacerbating the humanitarian situation. According to UN figures, this year alone, almost 20 million people in Myanmar will depend on humanitarian aid, equivalent to more than a third of the population.
