They belong to the ethnic minority of Hazara living in Afghanistan. “The Hazara are now being attacked by the Taliban and the Islamic State. So we are all in great danger,” say the boys.
Together they flew to Iran and from there they went through Turkey, Greece, and Macedonia to reach Serbia. “The journey across the sea was scary, we were all very afraid. The boat we sailed on was completely dark the whole time, and we didn’t even have any idea where we were,” say the guys who are glad to have the situation behind them.
And what do they hope to achieve? They all want to study in Germany. “One day I want to be a doctor,” says Naguib with Ehsan. “I wanted to become an engineer,” adds Omid. On the way to their dream destination, they’ll still have to cross the Hungarian border…
