Video: Czech influencer Janek Rubes' journey to Ukraine

Recently, renowned Czech influencer Janek Rubes joined us on a trip to Ukraine. Along the way, he saw how we are repairing houses and apartments to undo the damage caused by Russia’s war on the Ukrainian people.
Janek Rubes who is famous for his Honest Guide visited schools shelled during Russian invasion of Ukraine and saw how we are restoring them and building classrooms underground so children can learn safely even under the threat of Russian attacks. He talked to young people in digital learning centers established by People in Need where children can play, read, or improve their computer skills after school. He also surprised the children with magic tricks. But most of all, Janek talked to dozens of ordinary people who have had the horrors of war thrust upon them in our backyard.
Janek came to Ukraine in the framework of the education project “Safe Return to Learning in Ukraine” funded by the European Union designed and implemented by Consortium partners, Finn Church Aid, People in Need, Save the Children, War Child and local partners EdCamp and ISTOK. The project is implemented in partnership with educational authorities in seven Oblasts (Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovska, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Kherson).
The project allows 56,200 conflict-affected boys and girls aged 6 to 17 years old to return to learning in safe learning spaces, as well as provides training to 1,369 teachers and other educational personnel to address the well-being and protection needs of girls and boys, as well as their own needs in time of war.
Direct support is provided to the education system through light and medium repair of schools and protective shelters in schools, the setting up of Temporary Learning Spaces and Digital Learning Centers, and by supporting teachers in improving their skills and knowledge in Psychological First Aid, Social and Emotional Learning and Mine Risk Education.
